Mackenzie Lueck. Photo: Courtesy of the Salt Lake City Police Department Mackenzie Lueck, a senior from the University of Utah, went missing after taking a Lyft home from the airport on June 17. Police are still searching for the 23-year-old, who was returning home from California where she had attended a funeral for her grandmother. Lueck, who is originally from El Segundo, California, texted her parents after her flight landed at the Salt Lake City International Airport around 1 a.m.
“Detectives have spoken with the Lyft driver and learned that Mackenzie was met at Hatch Park by an individual in a vehicle,” Salt Lake City assistant police chief Tim Doubt told CBS News. “The Lyft driver left Mackenzie at the park with that person and stated that Mackenzie did not appear to be in any type of distress.”
On Thursday, June 27, police identified the owner of a home in the Fairpark area of Salt Lake City as a person of interest, the Salt Lake City Tribune reports. Video footage showed police digging out holes in the backyard and several bags of evidence were taken from the scene. Neighbors recently witnessed the owner burning something in his backyard. Part of the house has also been used as an Airbnb.
