Briones, along with other officials of the Department of Education , welcomed the first day of School Year 2019-2020 in two public schools in the National Capital Region : Signal Village National High School in Taguig City and Comembo Elementary School in Makati City.
Responding to the query on salary increase, Briones reiterated her stand on the issue: salary increase for teachers should be “carefully studied” since it would cost the government P150 billion for a P10,000-pay hike. Briones noted that the department continues to push for initiatives that will improve the welfare of teachers. While recognizing that some teachers have to struggle with their economic conditions, she reminded them not to forget the reason why they chose the teaching profession. She also urged them to “stay true to their commitment to public service” because “you are teachers.”
Briones noted that the initial estimate of P150 billion does not include the teachers’ performance bonus. She explained that the salary increase for teachers will be sourced from the taxes because it will be a permanent part of their salaries.

SecLiling , outside the school, teachers are mothers/fathers too, they provide for thier families, Feed thier kids, send thier children to school. These are sadly monetary concerns. Very apathetic coming from a cabinet secretary earning 4M/year.
SecLiling, while teaching is one of the most noble profession, teachers should live also a noble and dignified life. And a dignified life comes from a well compensated profession, a comfortable teaching environment, and a well structured school.

Teachers are 2nd parents. They 'adopt' their students; they are sensitive to their needs, be it emotional or financial. Minsan abunado, minsan sinasagot na nila ang gastos sa gamit galing sa sariling bulsa para lang sa estudyante kahit mangutang sila.
And the Teaching Profession DOES NOT CARRY WITH IT THE VOW OF POVERTY!

It applies to all profession. We need money to pay our bills, food, our child's educ.
Same could be said about ALL professions, like being a soldier or policemen. But THEY got salary increases... Any particular reason why teachers are not? I'll give you three guesses...

Sec. Briones, true it is not about the money. But being a teacher is a profession thats need to be compensated. And FYI most teachers I know use their own money to buy teaching materials that are supposed to be provided by DEPED.
This Briones is old school. She lacks ideas and should retire. You’re a disgrace to PRRD’s cabinet. Let the young blood lead the DepEd.
Maybe Briones should be given the salary as a Govt teacher and stripped out of all her perks and benefits. Let us see if she will still say it is not about the money. Teachers have to even take high interest loans just to take care and provide for their families.

Madam secretary, wala ka pong malasakit sa mga teachers saka wala kayong alam sa nararanasan namin. Kayo kaya magturo na kulang ang mga libro, school facilities, and we have to do our best to teach these 21st century kids na ultimong wifi wala po ang ibang schools.
Sec briones tagal mo na position ano naba nagawa mo.. 1 room + 1 teacher = 50-60 students.. Enhanced the facilities.. hindi puro bibig at pananakot sa mga teacher sa bacoor.. it boils down in your leadership.. dontblameDteachers
Teacher is a vocation. Like my mom when she was alive. She graduated at The Philippine Normal College, Manila in her time.
