Doesn’t sound right. Evidence that 19 mainly mediocre PMs went to Eton. Anecdotally, my state school had trouble controlling classes & keeping staff (consistently had supply teachers). Plus rather violent fellow pupils, was not a good environ to learn.
Education is not the point of sending your children to Eton. It's the contacts, implied status and the ingraining of a sense of entitlement.

Going to a school like Eton adds prestige and gives the student invaluable connections. It's a fact you'll get further with less talent if you went to Eton.
My mum is a teacher. She joined the school after tutoring me and my siblings. She focuses on bringing E's and D's (or what ever it is now) in there final year up to C's, and she's amazing at it. So color me skeptical when someone says school (or teachers) don't matter.

Sure there is. Its to allow the wealthy to maintain larger access to social networks of various kinds while keeping their kids away from the children of 'those people' they look down upon, whomever that is in a particular society
It is well known you don't need a brain to go to Eton or to become a member of the Establishment. Going to Eton is a stepping stone to nice jobs and a cushy life although most already have a collection of silver spoons.
