One female student told the commission that a group of senior male students singled out “the smallest girl” on the college floor and forced her to drink alcohol and other liquids through a “beer bong”.
The university asked the commission to look into the issue after a damning 2017 report on sexual assault and harassment across Australian universities found“We know we play an important role in helping to educate our students about respect and consent, while also giving them the tools and support needed if sexual assault and sexual harassment regrettably occurs while they are in our residential system,” UNE Vice-Chancellor, Professor Annabelle Duncan said.
