A mature-age student who graduated from a Queensland university with perfect marks admits he was just as nervous as his first-year counterparts.
University of the Sunshine Coast graduate Alistair Kerr finished his degree with a perfect grade point average.“I am a very competitive person,” he said.Mr Kerr attained an IT degree in 1999 and had a wealth of experience in software engineering, but a lifelong love of maths prompted him to return to study. He was anxious about returning to university.
“I was that mature-age student, I was up the front of the class asking all the questions, pointing out what the teacher got wrong. He said the hardest part of his studies was driving himself to meet his own lofty standards. Part of this involves research in the university's Longitudinal Adolescent Brain Study, a five-year project looking to identify factors relevant to youth mental health.
