About 85,000 public elementary school students in Valenzuela City are expected to receive free bags and school supplies from the city government before the classes start in June.

The distribution of school package is part of the local government’s “Balik Eskwela 2019” program that aims to improve the quality of public education in the city.

The free bags contain school supplies including notebooks, pad papers, pencil case, pencils and sharpener, lunch box and water tumbler. Zyan Caina, chief public information officer, said that the distribution of packages started May 18 and is expected to finish before the opening of classes. In an interview with The Manila Bulletin, Mayor Rex Gatchalian said that part of his plans on his third term was to “invest in the youth.”Apart from improving infrastructure and curriculum, Gatchalian wants to focus on education’s other aspects that affect children’s learning performance.
