The Department of Homeland Security supports the mantra of ‘Run, Hide, Fight’ during shootings. But some safety analysts disagree, endorsing lockdowns or other protocol at schools

- In two U.S. school shootings within eight days, students have attempted to tackle the shooters, sometimes at the cost of their own lives, drawing praise for reducing the bloodshed by taking a step that experts agree should only be a last resort.

It is less common in high schools. But that did not stop several students from charging the shooters who opened fire the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math School near Denver on Tuesday, according to witnesses. Kendrick Ray Castillo, 18, the only person killed, was among those rushing the shooters, preventing further loss of life. Eight people were wounded.

Chris Dorn, an analyst at the security consultancy Safe Havens International, noted similarities between Bialy and Howell, who was described as a muscular athlete by friends and family and was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps program.

Why the hell are there not metal detectors in every school in the US? Should have happened yesterday. But here we are, still swimming in circles. Lock down or run and hide....give me a break...!

Regardless of the how is the question why? What series of events changes a kid from a normal kid into a homicidal maniac? Environment? Social media? Over exposure to violence in media, games, entertainment? Recreational or prescribed mood control medications? What's different?

Where did these two scumbags get the guns?

Gee, common sense is not so common when up against so called theoretical “ rational” “logic”, but still remains amazingly accurate . “Thank you common sense.” “Can you get automatic rifles off our streets now? Thanks!” Sometimes “logic” is the mere talk of psychopathy .

Run,hide, fight is the best way to stay alive during an Active Shooter. It isn’t perfect but living in the real world it’s the best answer. Those of us that respond to and instruct Active Shooter response have to deal with now and not with want we might want the world to be.

Transparent backpacks

Handing out guns like candy to madmen and then telling children to “Run, Hide, Fight,” is the ultimate in cruelty and cowardice. The courage these children show in protecting their classmates shames the adults who have failed them in every way.

This has become the new normal.

But what happens if a shooter is already in the classroom?

So think metal detectors should be installed immediately to prevent them from entering to begin with.

Both schools did lockdown procedures. Run hide fight is for when the lockdown has not kept the gunman out. RHF was developed *because* lockdowns don’t always work and they pool many potential victims into one area

How about we institute common sense gun laws so we don’t have these massacres in the first place?

A better approach is to ban guns

All doors should be locked. Staff and students should carry security cards to enter the school.

Law enforcement needs to be first! They train for this. Are people really this Dumb!!? Come on

Wait what? Didn’t a lockdown submerge teens into a lunchroom and classroom? This has to be a joke?

Now-familiar 'run, hide, fight' put into practice in shooting at UNC CharlotteRiley Howell, without the option of running or hiding, confronted the suspected gunman at UNC Charlotte, and was killed. The police chief said he saved others. What a country. Our kids have to be heroes because the politicians choose to be cowards. That order should be reversed... Imagine a world where an active shooter is swarmed by an entire school🙌🏽... A true hero moment sacrificing your own life to save others in a world that seems chaotic and ununited. Sacrificing yourself in a world that feels selfish and only focused on individuals instead of the group. He is a true hero and someone we should always remember
