Kelly Stafford said a University of Michigan doctor saved her hearing when she underwent a 12-hour procedure to remove a brain tumor last month.

"There was a moment when they thought I might have lost my hearing completely," Stafford wrote. "He made everyone & everything stop, they all sat, & waited for some time.. the audio wave returned. His patience saved my hearing, as well as my face. You read right, he PRESERVED MY HEARING!" In Tuesday's post, Stafford wrote that Thompson had encountered the nerve just once before in some 2,000 operations, but because it was so rare he and his team wrote a research paper on it.

Stafford, who made a return visit to the hospital a week after her surgery, posted another video Tuesday of her playing at home with her three children.
