A palaeontologist in the US has identified and named a new dinosaur more than two decades after he first discovered it on a high school expedition."Suski" measures just under a metre tall and 2.8 metres long, and has a duckbillSuski"gives us a glimpse into the evolution of tyrannosaurs just before they take over the planet"
The dinosaur is a relative of the ferocious tyrannosaurus rex but measures just under a metre tall and 2.8 metres long, and has a duckbill. It has been named suskityrannus hazelae — or suski for short — and is believed to have weighed between 20 and 40kg, compared with its famous big cousin that clocked in at nine tonnes.
Virginia Tech assistant professor Sterling Nesbitt is the man behind the discovery, having unearthed the fossil in 1998 while on a dig expedition in New Mexico, aged just 16.
What an absolute thrill this must have been / is for the young paleontologist.
Almost cute...except it's a carnivore.
