Exclusive: Former Coalition education minister backs Labor's childcare wage rise plan auspol

A former Coalition education minister has applauded Labor's $10 billion plan to boost wages for childcare workers, saying the investment is "well overdue" and essential to tackle the staff turnover crisis in the sector.

"I think it is well overdue because the discrepancy in pay between trained early childhood educators and primary school teachers is significant and it's draining qualified staff away from early childhood," he said. The measure will phase in pay rises for 100,000 early childcare workers over the next eight years in a bid to lift the industry’s low hourly rate and attract more staff.

politicaltragic Was really rotten of GladysB to shaft Adrian... so much better than stupid PorkBarilaro NSWpol

cooktgragic Farming our childcare out to stranger is not good idea. If we can pay strangers to care for our pre school children, why can't we give the option to mothers to be paid as full time mothers before child hits grade one? Next generation is the numero uno every gen.

Says it all really.

Good on Liberals finally diendorsing their parties' bullsh*t

Nothing like another turncoat !

Another Liberal gets a conscience, after leaving parliament, quite a frequent occurrence. Waiting on Howard to do the same.

Great minister, who fortunately for the people, was there for them. Same can not be said about his replacement or the majority of other liberal party ministers.

This guy looks like Dollar Bill Billions SHO_Billions

This bloke was always in the wrong party.

Since when does a government prop up private sector workers’ wages. If it starts it will never stop! This is taxpayers money!
