Previously students have had to choose between ATAR or VET pathways to pursue academic or vocational studies. Now a third option has been created.

"For some time there has been some concern that students are not being challenged enough [through VET]," Ms Ellery said.

"This means they will be challenged and it keeps their options open, they can choose an alternative pathway into university or they can choose vocational training at TAFE."without the need to employ additional teachers

Further to this, did your journalist read this document? Did he ask the Minister how removing the requirement for Cert II OR ATAR will address the issues raised in this document? Did he just regurgitate a govt press release?

Um, that pathway existed 'many years' ago. The requirement to complete 4 ATAR courses OR a Cert II was only added relatively recently. Fact-checking?
