Tax Free Weekend,Eastchase,The Shoppes At Eastchase

Back-to-school season is approaching, which means it's time for back-to-school shopping.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Back-to-school season is approaching, which means the kids will need new shoes, new clothes, and of course that new backpack. The best time to do it, if you want to save a little money, starts Friday.

Like other stores participating in the sales-tax-free weekend, Academy Sports at Eastchase is stocking their shelves for the anticipated crowds. “Probably double more than what we see on daily basis, so I am anticipating probably 500 to 750 customers count each day,” said Eastchase Academy Sports Store Director Jean Walker.

Tax-free items include clothes and shoes that are $100 or less; tech items like laptops, tablets, flash drives and printers under $750; and other school and office supplies like pencils and paper. Even diapers under $50 qualify as tax-free purchases. “300 cities and counties are participating. In Montgomery city and county, we are 10 percent tax. All of that tax will be waved,” said Nancy Dennis with the Alabama Retail Association.“They will be able to see all that we carry. More than the school supplies but also the things that we carry for the outdoors, all the particular shoes, the summer related items, just the academy brand as a whole. They will be able to see more than the school supplies,” said Walker.
