It was white people who abolished slavery which was I believe was introduced into ISLAMIC culture years before it arrived here? not as in the EUBBC picture on its website, the EUBBC hate white people.

To what end? Has the University explained what it intends to do with the results of this exercise. History is history. Live with it.

And what about the Church of England, whose immense fortune is derived from slavery, and which initially opposed abolition until it was offered enough compensation? On its plantation in Barbados, it branded its slaves’ chests with the word ‘Society’, in case they escaped.

I want a degree in applied idiocy and Cambridge is currently the place to get one.

Will the African slave owners/sellers be investigated too or is this a special one for the bad white man again?!

UK's Ingrained Racist Eurocentrism! RIGHT that Cambridge_Uni opts to research west-Europe's/UK's parasitic, enslavement of Africans! nb Ongoing damage incl' - ONS' 'black/white coloured-people' colour-apartheid euphemisms - MPs/teachers/&c who MASK African hair/features! .

West Africa benefited immensely from the slave trade. Its such a shame the Royal Navy prevented it turning into Wakanda

apologise for past wrongs-deportations-slums-denying voting rights-hung for stealing bread because your family was starving-potato famine-don't peep into pandora's box, blow the bloody lid off.

Massive waste of time, nobody alive today has been affected by the Atlantic Slave trade

How about celebrating the fact that Great Britain did more than any other nation to bring about the end of slavery?

Why, typical University liberals with nothing better to do.

I suppose all African students should have free tuition then? What rubbish. Look at the British working class that have suffered under the same Aristocracy as the slaves. Look at the Irish that suffered too. Until we move on it'll never get better.

How about looking into how’s its benefited from my taxes though I’ve never benefited by its existence. Maybe I could get an apology in the guardian and some sort of bursary set up in my honour.

This boarders on the ridiculous. It’s not relevant changes nothing and serves no purpose.

Who apologizes for the forced serfdom of ordinary British people for many generations in the UK and across Europe?

I live in Cambridge. I’m more concerned about modern slavery & the plight of poor souls coerced into involuntary servitude right now. Of course we should face our past but how far back shall we go? The Romans? I don’t care if the Uni gives up £ (it’s not mine)but do something now

And in other news, the French and Italian governments are to be asked to apologise for the Norman & Roman invasions of Britain. How far do you take this back? Do we ask the Scandinavian countries to apologise for the Vikings?

FFS.

And once again we have another slavery story, no doubt we can expect, once again, all those P.C. bots getting their knickers in a twist whilst demanding somebody apologises and perhaps even offering some form of financial penance. 😴😴😴

🤦‍♂️ why can’t we move on?

A 2 year study..How far back are they going to go 1209? Who bought 1st slave in Africa? Who sold the 1st? Who sold/bought the last in Europe/ 🌎? Any Ottoman Connections? Did Elizabethan England rely on Ottoman financial Support to defeat Spanish Armarda.. Cambridge_Uni

ocean_kids In the 16th and 17th centuries, Europeans bought and sold Japanese and other Asians as slaves.

More PC brigade rubbish trying to undo history, lots of our ancestors have done what we now class as unacceptable by today’s standards yes it was wrong but let’s move on and address the wrongs that are happening now in our world that we can make a difference to people’s lives

Will Cambridge Analytica help in the investigation? Maybe Facebook could share some data on this? Investigating itself... surely the results are going to be fair or 'right and legal' because it was done in the best 'interest of the country'

This should be interesting... I love seeing PC people dealing with this stuff...

It’s like investigating The Ripper for crimes against virgins...

Once the investigation has concluded what course of action will be taken? and will it's servuity match that of past slave masters/wnkers?🤔

A bit of self flagellation to conclude the investigation.

What the hell is this nonsence? Will we finally investigate Italy for a Roman crimes and slavery and demand to take Colosseum down as symbol of slavery and oppression? Looks like we're heading this way! Universities became nests for idiots.

Pathetic!

the whole of English society did in one way or another.
