'We can say — and I can say as the director of the CDC — that vaccination does not cause autism. It's really important,' Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the CDC, says.

A student enters Franz Hall at University of California, Los Angeles, on April 25, 2019, in Los Angeles. Hundreds of students and staff at two Los Angeles universities, including UCLA, have been placed under quarantine because they may have been exposed to measles and either have not been vaccinated or cannot verify that they are immune.

It's not uncommon for universities to ask measles patients to stay in their rooms, Redfield says. But the highly contagious disease is hard to combat. "There are other vaccine-preventable diseases that we could see re-emerging if people don't take advantage of the vaccines that are available.""The challenge is that it's highly infectious three, four days prior to getting any symptoms and the rash," he says.Friday, speaking at the White House in response to questions about the outbreak and the impact unvaccinated people are having on its spread. But in 2014, he tweeted a conspiracy theory about vaccination.

Redfield says he's happy Trump has reversed course and voiced support for people getting their measles shot and other vaccinations. "I think it's very important. We can say — and I can say as the director of the CDC — that vaccination does not cause autism. It's really important," Redfield says."I think the key message is that right now about 94% of parents vaccinate their children. We want to get that last 6% to vaccinate their children.

Ok not autism but cdc says deafness brain damage seizures. How come the news doesn’t tell you that

global unity...might be a symptom that [make$] some people EXHIBIT_A fear of sociological vaccination or what the founding fathers called actual_representation which they said simply must be. Though divisive MIDDLE.-.men.-.always, always deny THE THREAT of virtual_representation.

this is the real epidemic in autism. Until the true spectrum is recognized +our gender norms are thrown out the door, we will continue neglecting an entire demographic of people silently struggling with this emmense weight- navigating “social norms” +roles

Weird then why did you put a gag order on your CDC employee to keep him from telling others what he found in his research? Why won't Congress let him testify?

smh and people still don't believe this

I get weary arguing to an anti vaccer when they bring up the autism argument- puts someone like me who has been diagnosed in an awkward+ peculiar situation- as they always end in, “well were you vaccinated?”+my answer is, of course I was, that’s how I know it’s not the vaccine.

All you lefties who are concerned about measles, How about we insist on LEGAL immigration only to this country so we can screen people to see what diseases they have before they are allowed to enter. We may just catch some people trying to bring drugs like fentanyl in, too

Those that rely on herd immunity b/c they are allergic to certain vaccines like my better half, & who also work to save the lives of others in the ER like my better half, get really pissed when you bring in kids w/o shots. Here’s a clue, they don’t know where to start w your kid

So in my humble opinion ,No! Vaccines do not cause Autism. By the way ,If vaccines caused Autism,By the way, one would think that if vaccines caused Autism, wouldn't the same vaccines make conditions for those on the spectrum worst wouldn't it

I have a daughter who is on the spectrum,we knew right from birth that she was different because she was showing signs of Autism long before it was time for her vaccines. As a matter of fact,it was on her first set of shots that she was given the diagnose of Autism.

eitology unknown remains true.

catmsilverman Yes, but Jenny McCarthy is a celebrity. She is much more important.

dmartosko The government has conceded a link between vaccines and autism. They use very specific language to absolve them of legal responsibility., saying “It didn’t cause it, it resulted in it”. That’s the only legal ground they have to claim vaccines don’t CAUSE autism.

Our President suggests otherwise. Obviously he understands science and is the world’s leading virologist and vaccinologist. He does have a high IQ as we all know.

can you prove it?

less vax more often

This is Trumps fault. This wouldn’t happen under democratic leadership.

If they showed definitive evidence that electronics increases the chances of autism by 50%, these people would still plant their kids in front of the TV. They just don’t “believe” in science. But some of the same folks will believe every lie out the orange idol, 100%.

Not true.

I've been having this same conversation with my high school students. They have a number of valid questions, and they have never experienced the deadly diseases of the past. We talked about polio and the iron lung. They have no idea.

Strangely, people with autism have more sense then people who refuse to get their children or themselves vaccinated for fear of autism or some fictional disease. That’s the irony of it all. It would be funny if only the humor of it was contagious 😷

Ok consider me convinced

Wondering when NPR - or any other mainstream media outlet - will profile someone who's been vaccine-injured. It's not hard to find us, if you just ask.

Just get the vaccine! Brooklyn = Israel travel stirring up deadly infection is heartbreaking. There is no excuse; be responsible for the rest of the world / people around you.

NPR is both sidesing it: The people who get their medical advice from twisted interpretations of The Brady Bunch vs the director of the CDC... this is how all your political reporting is too. One side should’ve never seen the light of day. VaccinesWork

transparency

Then why has the U.S. government settled millions in lawsuits from the parents of autistic children? I understand Redfield's argument: There are great advantages to a vaccinated population, but authorities have been draconian regarding the timing of vaccinations for infants etc.!

I have a question.. are any of the non vaccinated children still getting autism..?. What is the percentage..?.

Just like doctors recommended cigarettes in the 50’s
