KNIVES were planted on the school desk of a 12-year-old Japanese prince in an apparently sinister threat against the country's royal family on Friday.

Police in Tokyo are hunting for a suspect who allegedly trespassed Prince Hisahito's school posing as a construction worker by wearing a helmet and blue overalls.AP:Associated PressHisahito - the grandson of Emperor Akihito - will become second-in-line to Japan's throne next week after his elderly grandfather's planned abdication.

The young prince was in another part of Ochanomizu University Junior High School when the blades - painted pink and suspected from his desk on a stick - were placed.The prince is usually guarded by police officers - but they do not accompany him inside school classrooms, according to local media.
