Kota Kinabalu: Over 15,000 Sabah students studying in public and private higher education institutions in Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and Labuan benefited from the one-off RM600 cash subsidy for flight tickets to return to Sabah from the State Government.

State Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif said there are only about 300 students left whose applications for this subsidy are being processed and expected to be completed this month.“This month everything will be completed and only payment matters remain,” he said after launching the Sabah Education Sponsorship Portal at Menara Kinabalu here Tuesday.

The launch was officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor who said that the State Government which was concerned with the problems of the students regarding the high cost of airline tickets had for the first time provided an RM600 subsidy for airline tickets through the Graduan Rindu Sabah to all Sabah students studying in public and private universities in peninsula, Sarawak and Labuan in March this year with an allocation of RM10 million.

Read more The launch ceremony also saw the Sabah Education Fund receive an injection of another RM7.7 million, contributed by various government-linked companies and generous organisations.

Dr Mohd Arifin, who is also Sabah Education Exco, thanked all contributors for their contribution that would help young Sabahans, especially those in need, in their pursuit of the best education.Hoping for more and continuous contributions to the education fund, he said this is important so that the State Government can help more young Sabahans to further studies to higher level, as emphasised by the Chief Minister.
