A teacher ran out of sick days to stay with his cancer-stricken daughter, so fellow educators chipped in with their sick days -- adding up to 100 days

Hats of to these educators. However, this is not new teachers do this all the time. Sometimes to help a teacher who has a ill family member or illness themselves.

Wonderful story and awesome so many stepped up to help this family.

this is wrong America. A parent should be able to care for their sick child without losing their job.

Do you know that in the federal government, employees donate VACATION time -they are not allowed to donate sick leave- to other employees who need it for illness or family emergencies.... And federal employees don't get 14 or more weeks off every year

I think it’s great others donated to this. It was awesome what these other people did. I would of done the same.

The system isn’t broken. Some people need more time off. When would it ever end. Come on people.

No where does this story say he was going to lose his job. The sick days donated are so he still gets paid. If every business gave people pay to be out of work for 40 plus days businesses would be bankrupt. Then you would have people taking off abusing the system.

😔

While it’s amazing that so many people stepped up to help this man and his family by donating sick days it’s heartbreaking that people had to donate sick days so he could be with his family in the first place. The system is clearly broken and needs to be fixed.

To all the negative comments that try and hang this on potus, understand first FMLA is available, second CONGRESS can fix it, but won't if they did pass something POTUS will sign it. The big story here is UNITY, try it stop resisting everything use your mind not sound bites.

This is a wonderful story of coworkers!

The fact that everyone had to do that in order for this man to keep his job is so sad.

PeteButtigieg Chas10Buttigieg The generosity of fellow educators in this instance is phenomenal! Although beautiful, it should not have been necessary. supportfamilyleave

this is the first real news cnn has covered since trump took office.. ty and can we please have more

Excellent.

I hate feel good stories that really aren't that good.

The system failed. This is NOT a feel good story.

Kudos to his teammates and dad. Get well soon kid.

Why the fuck do you have a sick day limit? Like, oh well cancer, but I already had the flu, so gotta go to work? Does it also work the other way round, haven't been sick this year, so let's break that little toe and let's go to the beach?

Good gesture. Let me recommend a complete fruits therapy for the child, soursop fruit is the number one killer of cancer. A fruit a day for 30 days will baffle the doctors. It's been proof and confirmed, fruit available in Africa. D fruit cost within $2 & $3/ in Nigeria.

A system were something like that becomes necessary actually sucks ass. Do better, America.

cute baby!

Heal this beautiful baby and see how these people love their neighbor, Amen

Bless your sweet hearts!!!

So so sorry.

This is fucking amazing!

Whether it’s right or wrong it’s not the point, the point it’s that there is still good people in the world, not all it’s lost in humanity

The county should cover him not Co workers.

That’s incredibly nice of them to do, but the point is he shouldn’t have to worry about not having enough sick time in the first place.

People can b so kind ❤️

this country is a disgrace

THIS is why I still believe humans are great.

Cheers for the people who are helping out, but these stories need to focus on the soulless, bottom-line driven institutions that put people in these positions in the first place.

👏👏👏👏Great companions !!!!!

Teacher are like angles sent to us by god and I get so pissed when kid are so mean to teachers for no reason.

This shouldn’t have to happen in 2019.

Heroes...Hope she is improving

In Norway, his employer would give him the time off he needed, without his colleauges having to give up their own time. Yay to socialism.

wow if only we had paid parental leave and health care for all

This is the way we should be, helping each other the best way possible.

Time is the best present for this case ! Good idea! Such sweet friends he had!

This is bullshit 😡😡😡 good for his coworkers for helping BUT how the fuck can we say 'Greatest country everrrr' yet he is going to run out of days to take care of his extremely ill child AND on top of that, medical bills are the 1 cause of bankruptcy.

horrific that they had to do that

heart warmimg

That's so swe- WAIT. WHY ARE WE OKAY WITH THIS? This should NOT be an anomaly!

Remember how conservatives go crazy when it comes to abortion, but what now. I want a bill passed so that this mother can get care for her child. Where is the Republican Senate Hello trump pro life people where are you

Now that is real news reporting

Hooray for a system that makes us all wage slaves!

Love ❤️

And mr trump decides not to honor an educator of the year. Thank you teachers!

Friend in need is a friend indeed✌️

God bless them all. Humanity above ethnic or religion

this kind of 'feel good because a single person survived our broken system' news is bullshit

Truly inspirational Act!

I hope people don’t treat this like a feel good story

It saddens me that where I work, a Catholic midwestern level 2 trauma hospital, stopped allowing employees from donating their personal days to other employees. It seems soooo uncharitable.

This should not be 'good' news. The US is morally bankrupt with its skyrocketing college/medicine costs, lax gun control and rising white supremacy

Can I give him my sick days? I can make it 107 days.

That's so messed up!

Sounds like a fucked up system, huh?

America the great

Now he'll feel guilty taking their sick days. he should be given time off if his child needs him there.

God. When you post an uplifting story that just shines a light on how fucked up our healthcare and leave policies really are...

What would happen if days couldn’t be donated? Instead of celebrating let’s look at policy solutions.

That should not be a fucking thing

Our system is sick
