The trial heard the girl made a series of disclosures to her parents, alleging she had been sexually abused by the teacher. In his closing arguments, defence barrister Brendan Green told the court there was a possibility that her version of events could have been "contaminated". "When the crown case relies so heavily relies upon one witness, you would expect that witness to provide information to the police that is full, that is accurate, and not withhold information that could potentially be important," he said.The crown case was that Mr Eshman was sexually interested in young children, which was supported by his internet search history.
In her directions to the jury, Judge Harris said the defence's submission that the accused was a person of good character should be accepted.
