Jesus Cortez Cabrera speaks with The Post about life after attack

“He almost cost me my life,” Jesus Cortes Cabrera, 54, told The Post in an exclusive first interview. “I wanted him to stay in jail forever.”Mom who slit children’s throats and left them for dead on NYC sidewalk hit with 30 years-to-life sentence: DAGeorge Latimer ousts ‘Squad’ Rep. Jamaal Bowman in NY’s 16th District Democratic primary

The attack came as Cortes Cabrera was returning from an ATM to pay for a dinner he’d had with his brother and brother-in-law. While he still can’t return to playing soccer, Cortes Cabrera is once again starting to do something he’s always loved doing: teaching Mexican dance to children at his church.“My brother,” Juan, “said, ‘Hey man, you can do this!'” Cortes Cabrera said. “When I saw my brother crying, that encouraged me.”

He thinks “stronger laws” are needed to keep people like Bui off the streets. But while life has changed for him, Cortes Cabrera said the attack failed to destroy his spirits.
