Three dozen Elgin Community College student-athletes earned Academic All-Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference honors for the 2023-24 academic year.
Second-year honorees were: Quinn Butera, Ryan Caccia, John Genz, Josh Collins, Josh Genz, Charlie Jury, Jack Keck, Daniele Kinney and Andrew Sloan ; Tevor Brook ; Ruben Guadalajara ; John Eugenio ; Jadyn Booz-Bruce ; and Sarah Duque .School District U-46 plans to spend $3.9 million on maintenance and repair projects for the pools at Elgin and South Elgin high schools in advance of a new swim class being offered at all five district high schools this fall.
Launching the course will cost about $75,300, with more than $55,000 of that expense earmarked for the purchase of life vests, kickboards, swim fins, water weights, water polo goals and water basketball hoops, documents said. The remaining cost is for teacher training and development. Sponsored by the State Bank of Geneva, the race allows participants to walk or run. There also will be a one-mile run for children ages 6 to 14 and a Munchkin Fun Run for children 5 years old and younger, according to an event news release.
