The University of Nottingham's President and Vice-Chancellor will leave her position after seven years. Professor Shearer West, the first female vice-chancellor in the university's history, will be stepping down from her role to become the new vice-chancellor and president at the University of Leeds in November 2024.
Sir Keith O’Nions, chair of council, the university’s governing body, said: "Council has hugely valued the opportunity to support Shearer in her many successful endeavours, both within the university, the city and across the region. Her contributions will be recognised and appreciated widely. Professor West was appointed in 2017 and her departure comes as a wide-ranging set of cutbacks have been imposed at the institution after its leaders became aware it was hurtling towards a financial year-end budget gap. In recent days, the city's prestigious university has started a Mutually Agreed Resignation Scheme, in which employees voluntarily leave with a severance payment.
