As Pennsylvania lawmakers continue to hash out a budget for the upcoming fiscal year, some are hoping to pass legislation for a pilot program to limit students' cellphone usage in some schools.Senate Bill 1207 was approved by the Senate Education Committee on Tuesday with bipartisan support. The legislation would create a grant program to help school districts purchase secure, lockable bags that would hold students' cellphones until the end of the day.
Ryan Aument, R-Lancaster County, said he has heard from a high number of constituents and educators about the impact of cellphones in classrooms but also how widespread cellphone use has affected students' mental health.
