Labour announced in its manifesto that it plans to add tax to private school fees

With just weeks until the general election, all the main political parties have released their manifestos. And one controversial pledge from Labour has parents divided.

But what would this policy mean for parents of children attending private schools? And could it affect kids at state schools too? Under the plans, this would see an estimated £1.6bn raised per year that the party plans on using to fund its childcare programme. The amount fees would rise would depend on whether the school would add the entire VAT cost to the school fees or if they would take some of the brunt themselves.
