Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) This week's extreme heat is forcing some schools to scale back.

A heat advisory is in effect for WNY from noon today until 8pm Thursday. The heat index will range from 95 to 100 degrees.An open window at Rochester's Andrew J. Townson School No. 39 Monday, June 17, 2024, amid a week of scorching temperatures in the area. All Rochester City School District students from pre-K through grade 8 will have early dismissal for the entire week in anticipation of the scorching temperatures."One of my coworkers' classrooms has a thermometer.

Valenti says the hot weather can be hard on kids, and can take away their focus from their classwork. The early dismissal does not apply to high schoolers, and won't impact the upcoming Regents exams scheduled, as the district prepares to keep those students cool.
