In nearly every subject at every grade level, fewer Texas students passed STAAR assessments this year than last year. The Texas Education Agency released STAAR results Friday for mathematics, reading, science and social studies exams taken in the spring by students in grades 3-8.
Area districts saw less drastic decreases in reading and social studies scores compared to other subjects. Science scores saw the biggest drops in passing rates. Even as overall passing rates declined, however, many districts had higher percentages of students who met expectations compared to 2022-23.
