The camp allows children to get hands-on training and education about the fire rescue industry. It also helps kids get their foot in the door to becoming a firefighter as a full-time career.
The camp is a week-long event that takes place every June. Registration and applications are done at the beginning of the year. Straub said it’s about $10,000 to put on the event every year, but it comes with custom uniforms for kids, access to equipment, and an experience of trying something new. “10 to 14-year-olds won’t even think about doing this stuff that they get to do or try so that’s super cool for them to be able to experience this week,” said Capt. Straub.
