UConn Huskies men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley has turned down an offer to become the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers,

The Lakers offered Hurley a six-year contract with $70 million, according to Wojnarowksi. Connecticut governor Ned Lamont said at a public appearance before news of Hurley’s decision broke that “We’ll make sure he’s the top paid college coach,”Hurley is a lifelong East Coast resident, having grown up in New Jersey as the son of legendary high school basketball coach Bob Hurley. He played college basketball at Seton Hall and first rose to prominence as a coach at St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, N.
