Michael O’Neill insists he has "no regrets" about exposing his young players to the might of Spain despite crashing to a 5-1 defeat in Majorca.
It stalls Northern Ireland's recent progress, which included wins against Denmark and Scotland and a 1-1 draw in Romania. But for O'Neill, it shows his players what to expect when the World Cup qualifiers come around next March. It was also a youthful squad at O'Neill's disposal, with many plying their trade in the lower divisions in England and Scotland.
He added: “We’ve defended deep against Denmark, against Scotland and against Romania and we’ve defended well, we only conceded one goal , but we faced a higher level of player here and that’s something we have to bear in mind,” he said.
