Have the children read the books and acknowledge why they're problematic in stead of expunging them from the library? You can't just erase parts of literary history cause they don't conform with our current ideals, if we did we'd have v little left. Read them and learn from them.
In the French ending of 'little red riding hood' the girl is eaten. In the German version the girl is saved by a hunter who killed the wolf and open its belly. French : sex knowledge is dangerous 🆚 German : sex knowledge can be built on trust.
If young children see gender stereotypes in what they read, they will consider them normal; if instead adults purify their classic books from those stereotypes, they will consider Fahrenheit 451a model to follow when they grow up ;)

Excellent! It's about time we update our kids' libraries. But this headline is misleading. Nothing's been removed altogether. Some books have been updated for pre-school kids, while older kids have worked on them with the help of teachers, from a critical perspective.

Which ones did they keep? I bet that the 'acceptable' ones still have things like violence only against male characters, or only male characters being expected to risk themselves or die.

Conversation between teachers or parents and students. I’m not for banning anything. Discuss, point it out, why it’s different now. Teachable moments are everywhere. Talk to your kids.
The legend of St George is an evolved myth common to all ancient cultures. It tells the essential tale of human endeavour against the terrifying absolute & our ability to remake it into order & beauty for our continuing survival. And this is now sexism. I'm sorry for the kids.
Make all characters gender neutral and you can reuse those old books.
