School to be repaired after teachers complained about water coming through roof

A Nottinghamshire school will be repaired after teachers complained of water flooding in through a broken roof. Staff had called for an investigation after water had flooded into Intake Farm Primary School and Nursery on Armstrong Road, in Mansfield.

Nottinghamshire County Council-appointed surveyors found part of the nursery building's roof had been leaking for a long period of time, with the resulting water ingress causing damage to internal finishes and creating damp. A planning document, prepared by architects to explain the proposed repairs to the school, said: "The present waterproofing is in poor condition and is generally deteriorating to the extent that water penetration can occur.

The repairs to the building would involve the removal and replacement of ceiling panels in the nursery building, as well as measures to fix the current leaks. Arc Partnership, the joint venture between Nottinghamshire County Council and local authority-owned body SCAPE which will carry out the work, said it was needed because of the "presence of asbestos containing materials, aged and unsuitable roof lining, and general wear and tear to the building elements leading to further damage".
