Doctor Shortage News

Medical School,Nova Scotia Doctor Shortage,Canada

Dalhousie University is reporting the number of graduating medical students choosing family medicine has doubled since 2018 as it works to attract more undergrads to the field.

Dalhousie University is reporting more than half of its graduating class of medical students are choosing family medicine. As Skye Bryden-Blom reports, the match-day numbers come as Nova Scotia continues to grapple with a shortage of primary care providers.

Dr. Katherine Stringer, the head of Dalhousie’s department of family medicine, says she’s proud of the result. “We don’t actually have all that data from all the medical schools, but from my experience and from my knowledge across the country, I’d say it’s one of the highest,” she says.
