Texas Education Agency According to the TEA, the performances held steady compared to previous end-of-course results. In other words, a consistent number of students met grade levels in subjects like Algebra and Biology. There was a 4% increase, however in English II, but had a 2% decrease in U.S. History.
In a statement by the TEA, Commissioner Mike Morath seemed pleased by the results overall but noted the importance of bridging the gaps we haven’t recovered from due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “The 2024 STAAR End-of-Course results highlight both the progress Texas students and educators have made and the challenges that remain to help students improve outcomes, which can only come from a robust assessment and accountability system. While we celebrate the gains in English II, we must also acknowledge the areas where student performance has not recovered to pre-pandemic levels,” Morath said.
