A newborn killdeer bird stands near its mother at Rio Americano High in Sacramento. By Jacob Bogage Jacob Bogage National sports writer and blogger Email Bio Follow April 17 at 7:15 AM One California high school’s long avian nightmare is finally over.
It was set to open with a boys’ lacrosse game on April 2, but days earlier construction workers doing a final check of the new turf field found a bird’s nest in the end zone. So when the nest was discovered on Rio Americano’s new field, Principal Brian Ginter said the grand opening would have to wait. Construction crews erected a barrier around the nest so as not to disturb the birds or the four eggs inside.
“The bird showed up, and we’ll just let it do it’s thing and then we’ll use the field when we can,” Ginter told the Sacramento Bee.It takes between 24 and 28 days for killdeer eggs to hatch, according to the National Audubon Society. Once they do, the family unit don’t maintain a nest and the field would be available for play.
Protect those birds, but don’t worry about unborn children. Sickening.
Killdeer's are EVERYWHERE, maybe it's time to revisit that 118 year old treaty. Also, very cool birds.
Auspicious omen for the school!
Surprised you didn't save this breaking news story for tomorrow to bury the bad news coming in the Mueller report about the Russia Hoax and the attempted coup on America.
🐣🐣
Actually they built a new field on their breeding ground.
Gosh. Now there’s a school or perhaps it’s boss which knows its moral priorities. I wish Brother Bird and it’s children well.

And she tweets too!
It's nice to hear that, occasionally, people can do the right & unselfish thing (of course, the law mandated it, which always helps, huh?).
(Because it would be illegal)
And I love birds for the record.
Awwwww.
If steps like this can be taken to preserve the life of a little bird how sick is our society that we dont extend the same protection to the life of a human baby?
She should be their new mascot
craignewman smh
Slow news night?
Wholesome news:)
