Those living with student debt in California might be able to get some extra help since the Student Loan Empowerment Network has launched.Across the state, Californians are dealing with more than $148 billion in student loans.To try and ease that burden, the Student Loan Empowerment Network will be offering financial coaching to borrowers. Specifically, borrowers will be able to get income-based repayment plans and federal student loan forgiveness if they have been working in public service.
'The reality for many students is they do qualify for various forms of financial aid and debt relief, but fail to either know what's available or how to qualify for these programs,' Alex Beene, a financial literacy instructor at the University of Tennessee at Martin, told Newsweek. 'The empowerment network California is establishing looks to connect these students with resources that can hopefully take some of the financial burden so many of them undertake when going to college.
