UK families are to be given a one-off payment worth hundreds of pounds to help pay for the extra costs of sending their children to school – and it includes help towards the cost of school uniforms. Parents of young children born between 1 March 2019 and 29 February 2020 who are starting school this September could be in line for a payment of £314.45 to help them cover the costs of uniforms, stationery, school trips and more.
The fifth is the Scottish Child Payment – a payment that is now available for children up to the age of 16. This is a £26.70 weekly payment paid monthly to parents or guardians in receipt of qualifying benefits. Others are eligible for the Best Start Payments if they claim certain benefits and are over the age of 18.It does not matter whether you are in work or not. But you cannot get the help if you only get Child Benefit.
Your child does not have to take up a place at school to be eligible for the payment either. Though you’ll still need to apply in the year that your child is first old enough to start school, even if you ‘re deferring when they’re starting or your child is not going to school.‘When you need to apply for the School Age Payment depends on when your child was born.’
