The final decision on Breakspeare School's move to a new site in Croxley Green is due soon.

A planning application to create a new Special Educational Needs and Disabilities school in the disused former Durrants School playing field, next to Little Green Junior School in Croxley Green, is set to be decided by Hertfordshire County Council.

If it goes ahead, Breakspeare School, currently in Abbots Langley, would relocate to the new site and see a massive boost in numbers.A public consultation ran from March 5 until April 5 and now officers are producing a committee report setting out their recommendations. The council has suggested its development control committee will likely decide whether to approve the plan at a meeting on July 18, “although we do not know for certain whether it will be considered then”.A spokesperson added: “If approved, Breakspeare School will accommodate 210 pupils with severe learning difficulties in its new building, once it opens in spring 2026.

“We are committed to making sure that all children have the opportunity to thrive in good schools that meet their needs. “The new development of Breakspeare School is part of Hertfordshire County Council’s capital investment into expanding provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in Hertfordshire.”We want our comments to be a lively and valuable part of our community - a place where readers can debate and engage with the most important local issues.
