Opinion: If states don’t agree with the federal government on nutritional standards for school lunch programs, they ought to spearhead changes of their own, writes senatorshoshana

Seven Democratic attorneys general are suing the Trump administration to stop the U.S. Department of Agriculture from loosening Obama-era school nutrition regulations.

The lawsuit—filed by California, Illinois, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, Vermont and the District of Columbia—claims the USDA relaxed sodium and whole-grain requirements without offering the public a chance to comment “and in contravention of nutritional requirements for school meals established by Congress.”

senatorshoshana Just got around to reading this. You are so right about the lawsuit & the politics. What’s frustrating is that there are so many school districts that could innovate & provide GREAT school meals but hide behind the regs & use red tape as an excuse for crappy meals.

senatorshoshana Every state is different. In Utah, school lunches do not look like this. They are set up healthier.... but then the kids don’t want to eat it. There is a max calorie count and kids who only eat when at school aren’t getting the necessary calories needed. It’s a catch 22.

senatorshoshana How about the Federal Government stay the hell out of the schools completely! They don't belong there to begin with.

senatorshoshana She’s a frivolous writer.

senatorshoshana Federal government should stay out of school lunches—how is that in the name of common defense and interstate commerce.

senatorshoshana Everything has become a lawsuit. Let’s go after the root of the problem before running to court?

senatorshoshana Every state wants to give the kids cheap food 1st and foremost. If the government can give them military approved food, then they'll go with that. If not then they have to just find something kids will eat cheaply cause the teacher's unionized workers get paid 1st.

Families of Parkland school shooting victims file lawsuits charging negligenceLawsuits filed by the families of Parkland school shooting victims accuse the Broward County school board, sheriff's office and others with negligence for failing to prevent the massacre. You mean we’re acknowledging the actual parties who hold some degree of responsibility for a shooting? Not punishing 100m law abiding, responsible gun owners for the horrific acts of the monsters who actually committed the crime? Weird.
