Douglas Anderson School for the Arts parents and alumni are optimistic the changes will usher in a new era for the school, but want additional safety protocols.

Safety for the next school year is top of mind for the DA community as the summer gets started. Ahave some people feeling hopeful. DA parents and alumni are optimistic these will usher in a new era for the school. Riverside High School Principal Timothy Feagins is taking over as principal at DA. Kimberly Clark’s children went to schools led by Feagins for eight years. Clark appreciates the way she says he handled issues by speaking with her personally.

Outgoing Superintendent Dr. Dana Kriznar has a list of new protocols to take effect in the new school year. It includes hiring more investigators in their Office of Professional Standards and improving staff training, student awareness and parent communications about what constitutes inappropriate adult behavior in schools.

“I think the protocols are appropriate," Richardson said."I just think that the additional thing I would want is more adults in classrooms. So whether that’s paraprofessionals or more parents volunteering, showing up at the school or additional teachers, co-teaching opportunities, those are solutions that we really need in the classroom day to day at Douglas Anderson.”

They all say they’re ready to start making sure the school is as safe as can be with a new principal too.
