Dozens of parents, students, and advocates tailgated ahead of the Columbus City Schools Board of Education Meeting on Tuesday.

There are nine different scenarios the task force has presented to the school board to deal with he district's 110 buildings. According to the, the recommendations would be based on district enrollment, building usage, capacity and building conditions. Cavendish said the alternative school for her daughter, Highland Elementary, is within a three-mile radius of her home, but it's double the distance for her 7-year-old daughter to walk.

Marshall said he currently has two students enrolled in the district. One attends Arts Impact Middle School, and the other attends Columbus Africentric. Both of those schools are not on the list the Task Force had in their initial recommendations to possibly close, but Marshall said he believes his daughters could be indirectly impacted.

"We’re going to have different emotions, we’re going to have people who learn differently in a different class setting, and that is going to take a while for all of that to really come together," Marshall said.
