The Texas institution has decided to not bring back the traditional "Aggie Bonfire" after 12 people were killed in a collapse in 1999. COLLEGE STATION, Texas - After rumored plans for return, the President of Texas A&M University has announced that the ‘Aggie Bonfire’ will not return to the college station campus.
“The committee also recommended that we reinstitute the annual Bonfire tradition with an engineer-designed, contractor-built bonfire on West Campus.,” said Texas A&M President General Mark Welsh III. “However, after careful consideration, I have decided it is not in the best interest of Texas A&M and the Aggie Family to bring Bonfire back to campus.
