Parma, N.Y. — A man is charged with vehicular manslaughter following a crash that killed a 2023 Spencerport High School graduate over the weekend.

Parma, N.Y. — A man is charged with vehicular manslaughter following a crash that killed a 2023 Spencerport High School graduate over the weekend.Police said Alexander Hackett, 33, of Parma, was driving west on Burritt Road, just east of Butcher Road, around 1 a.m. when his car struck a westbound SUV from behind.

In a letter to district families, Spencerport Central School District Superintendent Ty Zinkiewich said counselors would be available for students and staff. Trying to make sense of this tragedy leaves us with more questions than answers. I’ll make every effort to share updates as we can, and with permission of the family, and ask for your understanding and patience as we are all trying to do our best for our grieving families and learning community.

Zinkiewich said the district's Cosgrove library would be open Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. as "a safe space to gather, remember and support each other."The Eichas family shared Maria’s love of this district, and we want to demonstrate our love for her in return.
