One man is dead and four others were shot after suspects opened fire on a group of men socializing outside a Rexdale high school late Sunday night, Toronto police say.Police said Monday that a group of about 15 to 20 men had finished playing soccer that afternoon and were enjoying the fresh air outside the school when two suspects pulled up, got out of their vehicle, and began shooting.
During a news conference on Monday morning, Det.-Sgt. Phillip Campbell told reporters that one of the surviving victims suffered “serious, life-altering” injuries and the other three are receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.Campbell said he could not confirm if the victims were targeted or shot at random.
Police said they are searching for two suspects who were driving a newer-model pickup truck that is black or dark in colour.Mount Olive is closed in both directions between Kipling and Silverstone Drive for the police investigation. "My phone is ringing off the hook already. I’m speaking with some constituents just down the road. They are afraid for their lives. You know, it’s gotten out of control."
