Ibe blamed the situation on what he described as “total absence of adequate medical facilities” in the orientation camps scattered across the nation and expressed worry over the ugly situation.

Ibe spoke in a statement while mourning a graduate of Economics of the university, Fortune Ihe who died in his Sokoto orientation camp recently. Ihe was posted to Sokoto and died in the orientation camp of fever. In the statement which was signed by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Ogbonnaya Ogwo, the chancellor said: “I am calling on the management of NYSC to explain to us the circumstances that led to the death of Fortune Ihe, a young Nigerian graduate, who I had a rare privilege of nurturing personally from a fresh man in our university to a promising global leader.

Ikpeazu who spoke at the closing ceremony of the 2019 batch “A” orientation course programme at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Umunna in Bende council area, noted that the corps members were being under-utilised by employers, thereby denying the youths the opportunity to realise their full potentials in the service of their father land.
