'If students wish to move out of popular student locations like Fallowfield or Rusholme, they are looking at a roughly £1400 monthly rent increase in property'

On July 15th I will walk across the stage to finally collect my hard earned degree. My parents will travel to Manchester, book a table for dinner and make hotel reservations.

Hundreds of the graduate class of 2024, will head out for food and drink with families to continue celebrating their success.

According to the Office of National Statistics, rent in Manchester rose to an average of £1994 in March 2024. An annual increase of 12.3% from March 2023. In Ancoats, one of Manchester's most sort after living locations, a two-bed apartment is averaging around £400, £500 per week, or £2000 per month.

But with the majority leaving university in debt, a huge sum of student loans looming over their heads, living in Manchester with the current rise in rental costs seems like a far-fetched dream.
