A university building in Liverpool city centre and a facility at Alder Hey also picked up regional awards

Three Merseyside buildings are in the running to be named the best in the country after winning regional awards.

As well as picking up the general North West award, Prescot's Shakespeare North Playhouse was named as winner of the main prize - the RIBA North West Building of the Year award 2024. The judges said that the project has “put Prescot on the map” and that it is “raising aspirations and expectations along with moments of real delight”.

The Alder Centre at Alder Hey Children's Hospital and Liverpool John Moores University's Copperas Hill Student Life and Sports Building also won North West awards. The Alder Centre also picked up the Client of the Year award. About it, the judges said: "The building itself is gentle, modest, but well proportioned, with carefully linked spaces. Its form is inherently uplifting, with views to the sky through generous, vaulted ceilings as well as glazed doors allowing views to the garden and the ability to step out for fresh air and contemplation. Each space manages to feel like a sanctuary, while retaining connections to the ‘real world’ outside.
