The new $35.5 million Kindergarten-to-Grade 5 anglophone school in Fredericton will be known as Cuffman Street Elementary School when it opens in September 2024.
New Brunswick Education Minister Bill Hogan said the name was chosen from among 275 suggestions received following a call for names. The new school is expected to reduce overcrowding at Gibson-Neill Memorial Elementary School and, according to Anglophone West School District district education council member Michael Mazerolle,"address the overcrowding challenges at Devon Middle School in the near future.
Anglophone West School District superintendent David McTimoney said staffing efforts are"well underway. “This new facility will serve as an educational setting that will be welcoming for students and families and where learning and student well-being will be a priority," he stated."We will be exploring ways to facilitate a positive learning and working environment where students and staff embrace being in the building and spending each day with their peers, teachers and colleagues.
