by Kaigan Bigler, KUTVFILE: Salt Lake City Police DepartmentWhile walking home from school, a 16-year-old girl was kidnapped and sexually assaulted inside a man's truck.
Tevita Hoihoi Mounga, 78, approached the victim in his truck as she was on her way home after school in March, court documents said. The victim told police she opened the truck's door to hear what Mounga was saying when he pulled her into the vehicle and drove away, documents said.After pulling into a parking lot, Mounga reportedly proceeded to sexually assault the victim.His truck was identified by the victim from camera footage taken in the area. She described the "Polynesian style necklace" and pocketknife that was found in his truck as well, then identified him in a photo lineup, police said.
Another court document said Salt Lake Police have received two previous reports of an older man in a truck trying to lure young girls in his vehicle. In those cases, documents said witnesses got pictures of the suspect's truck and license plate, which led back to Mounga. Mounga is being charged with aggravated kidnapping, two counts of forcible sodomy, 3 counts of object rape, aggravated sexual assault and interruption of a communication device.
