NETWORK Rail is being sued by a grieving mother whose teenage daughter was killed by a “silent” night train as she sat on the tracks at a level crossing.
Both girls had also grown up in the local area and believed that, if any train did in fact approach, it would sound its horn. A simple sign explaining that drivers would no longer sound their horn overnight would have saved her daughter's life, she claims. And he claimed locals such as Milena and Amelia would have been lulled into a false sense of security because train horns continued to sound during the day.
I think the mum failed looking after her girl properly there... :( btw u can hear the rails buzzing way before the train gets there; u dont need horns. if ure not stupid, u jump.
Beggars belief that anyone would be so incredibly stupid, sad for the girl that lost her life, hopefully the publicity raised by the mothers atempt at suing may just prevent a recurrence. the one person who requires sympathy is the poor driver ,perhaps BTP should give her a bill
Girl was a straight A student but not smart enough to know that sitting on a train track is a bad idea. Book smarts V street smarts. Mother is using an accident for financial gain. And putting a very low price on her daughters life.

How on earth can train tracks be good places to hang out ? Trains or no trains ! The mother should have been instilling this into her daughter from an early age. If she wins maybe she should give the money to the poor train driver who is probably still having nightmares himself

Mother needs to take a very long hard look at herself. Wtf. But its easier to try & shift all blame on an innocent train driver whose life has also now been destroyed. What in gods name is wrong with some parents. Always someone elses fault!

The only person who’s breached any duty of care was the mother. Allowing her “straight a star student” to smoke cannabis shows complete lack of care. What about the poor driver, daughter is at fault.
um why? they probally got in trouble for hooting at night and disturbing people in the first place. surely parents job to teach child not to play let alone treat railway as a park bench
As unfortunate as it is, I can’t see how NR are to blame for teenagers sitting on tracks, if you live in the village surely after 6 years of not hearing the horn of a train at night is a good indicator that they don’t do it anymore due to complaints of residents of said village.

You teach your children not to play or go near train tracks let alone sit on them, although out can’t watch them 24/7 as they get older - surely her time would be better spent making sure that all children realise the consequences of this than trying to sue anyone!

No not sitting on train tracks would have saved her life. It’s tragic. But not the railways fault. They shouldn’t have been on tracks in the first place. Still tragic though.
