A young girl in eastern China has been living in a motor home next to her primary school because her family was concerned about the long commute.

For nearly two months the girl, surnamed Zhu, has spent the school week – from Monday to Thursday – with her grandmother or mother in the motor home, which cost the family half a million yuan .

“After some time in school we found she could not discipline herself,” her mother was quoted as saying. “Her school results were not stable.” Her mother said the girl became “grumpy and anxious” because of the long commute. “She got up at 6am and went to bed at 10pm,” Zhu’s mother said. At the end of last year, Zhu begged her parents several times to buy a motor home so that “she would not waste time on the road”.
