Cursive writing has been making a comeback in classrooms. Texas is the latest state in which educators are pushing to bring back the handwriting technique in elementary schools.

It's a familiar refrain. Parents lament that technology is turning good, legible handwriting into a lost art form for their kids.

In response, lawmakers in state after state -- particularly in the South -- are carving out space in teachers' classroom time to keep the graceful loops of cursive writing alive for the next generation.Alabama passed a law requiring it in 2016. That same year, Louisiana passed its own cursive law. Others like Arkansas, Virginia, California, Florida, North Carolina, have similar laws.Texas is the latest state in which educators are pushing to bring back cursive writing in elementary schools.

But why

Beto would fail miserably

It should NEVER have been REMOVED, to begin with! 🙄😒😢

Failing to teach cursive in Texas to children with heartbeats is punishable by death?

Cursive was developed because it was faster than printing. But my high school students almost exclusively type their assignments, papers, reports. Teach them keyboarding.

Cursive writing has actually caused many medication mistakes and deaths right here in the USA. Horrible penmanship is to blame. While it is nice to look at well formed cursive writing, it no longer serves a purpose in modern education.

Texas is one of the main states trying to get the bible taught as fact in school. Texas isn't of the forefront of anything other than indoctrinating children.

CNN you are not against this? What? You sure it’s not racist writing ✍️?

And we complain that our schools don't keep up with the times...aside from writing your name on a check, when is this used? If we get rid of electricity, yes, I guess there will be a need again...schools are forced once again to follow archaic rules by clueless legislators

As far as I know, cursive was never removed from the curriculum in the UK. My little granddaughter uses it extensively.

It’s a massive waste of time, and breeds lazy handwriting.

They should teach shorthand - this would come in handy when studying

In some French universities students are no longer allowed to use laptops. Instead they have to use pen + paper. Reason 1: profs don't like to stand in front of a crowd hiding behind screens. 2: studies show that you remember things that you write much better than what you type.

They dont want kids to be able to read the constitution and bill of rights as adults.

I'm appalled at the implication that it was stopped! That's awful.

It’s important to teach that to kids. It helps them with their handwriting.

Love that

I don't think it should've ever been removed. Sign your name shouldn't mean print or type.

When did it stop

Dumbest thing ever to not teach it two kids of mine were taught one wasnt.

My grandmother has a whole bunch of letters written in cursive; they're very pretty but literally nobody can read them. I had to learn cursive in school and never used it since. Let it die and replace it with something more useful. Like mandatory evolution.

Or chiseling words on stone tablets.

Why

Dumb

Hang on.... people generally don’t write in cursive in the US?

Allah belasını versin yazayım da siz çevirin bakalım 🤬 el kadar çocuk yazacak lan bunu gerizekalılar! Parmakları düğüm düğüm oluyor sabilerin

yes! it helps improve studies!

It's faster than printing - and makes reading past works easier.

Good.

Good. I can’t tell you how many of my client tell me to write in block letters because they can’t read “the squiggly lines”.
